This is a cool use of creativity from Jim Darling in Beacon, NY.

Albert Einstein says about imagination – “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

“The area that I’ve been spending time in has multiple abandon buildings, which are amazing. Unfortunately it also has a ton of trash scattered between the buildings. I decided to clean up the area by dragging all the junk into one location and making something out of it. With a little help I pulled four beds, six tires, and a large amount of scrap into one consolidated area… The trash that was scattered everywhere, was transformed into one giant character who found a great place to relax.” – Jim Darling in Beacon, NY

This great endeavor has to be shared so we (Marvelous) are hoping you take a look and get involved. Cool stuff.

The Passion

Glue, Inc. began in 2005 with a fundraiser inspired by the thousands of Africans living in Nkhoma, Malawi, who are both directly and indirectly affected by poverty, the drought and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The 2005 Hurricane Katrina relief effort showed evidence that people are willing to reach out and stretch their own funds when the need was brought closer to home. The challenge was to get people to care about those in need who are far removed from their daily lives. The solution was creating a party with a purpose to draw them in, inspire conversation, and provide a starting place for a much bigger community based on caring.

The fundraiser was a success. The San Diego community was joined by well-known artists, musicians, and brands with a common passion and purpose for helping those less fortunate. The amazing response showed many are not only willing to help, but looking for opportunities to do so. Dreams were formed of an ongoing network created for the sole purpose of helping and connecting people who aspire to make a difference.

COOL STUFF (the installation not the pollution)

Our friends over at PSFK hipped us to HeHe (Helen Evans and Heiki Hansen)’s terrific installation from last year called Nuage Vert, or ?Green Cloud? which raises awareness about energy consumption and polution.

PSFK writes:

“Every night for a week, the vapor emissions from the Salmisaari coal burning power plant were illuminated with a high power green laser animation. The laser drew an outline of the moving cloud onto the cloud itself, coloring it green.”

The project won the 2008 Ars Electronica Golden Nica.
